A-FRAME STAND BUYING GUIDE

Choosing an A-frame: size, material and where it will live

These frames are supplied without printed panels, so the decision is about the hardware: what size suits your frontage, which material suits the position, and what you will put in it.

600 x 900mm or 800 x 1200mm

Both sizes are available in this range. The smaller frame suits narrow footpaths, doorways and shared frontages where a larger sign would obstruct the walkway or crowd a neighbour. It is also easier to carry in and out several times a day, which matters more than people expect when the job falls to whoever opens up.

The larger frame is read from further away and holds its own on a wide footpath, a forecourt or a site entrance. It also presents more area to the wind, so it suits a more sheltered position. Where the sign will mainly be seen by people already walking past your door, the smaller size is often sufficient; where you need to be noticed from across a road or car park, the larger one may be the better fit.

Aluminium or plastic

Both frame materials are offered. Aluminium frames are stiffer and tend to look more finished on a frontage where appearance is part of the offer. Plastic frames are lighter to move and more forgiving if knocked or blown over, which can suit a sign that lives outdoors full time.

Neither material removes the need for judgement in wind. Any A-frame may move in a strong gust, so position and daily handling matter as much as the frame you choose.

Inserts, and changing the message

Plan the insert at the same time as the frame. Corflute is commonly used outdoors, being light and economical to replace when the offer changes; a printed poster may suit a sheltered position such as under a verandah.

Order inserts to the panel size rather than the frame's external dimensions, and if you are replacing a panel in a frame you already own, measure the panel itself. Keeping a spare insert means the frame is not standing empty while a reprint is produced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these frames double-sided?

The frames in this range are described as double-sided, holding a panel on each face. Running the same artwork on both faces is the simplest approach, though two different messages — one for each direction of foot traffic — is often a better use of the second face.

Can I use an A-frame on the footpath outside my shop?

That depends on your location. Footpath signs sit on public land, and placement rules, minimum clear width and whether such signs are permitted at all vary by council area. Check with your local council before making one part of your daily routine.

What should I do in strong wind?

Bring frames in overnight and when high wind is forecast. Where a sign must stay out, positioning it against a wall or solid frontage rather than in open space is generally safer than leaving it exposed.
