When the thicker board is worth considering

5mm corflute is the same fluted plastic as the 3mm board with more depth between the faces. That additional thickness generally adds stiffness and edge resistance.

The situations that call for it

Larger panels that would otherwise bow under their own weight. Positions that catch wind, such as corners, open berms and roadsides. Campaigns running for weeks rather than days. And signs handled repeatedly, going in and out of a vehicle several times a week, where thinner board may begin to crush along the edges.

It sits more firmly in hardware

The extra thickness typically grips more securely in ground spike holders and A-frame channels, so panels are less likely to work loose or rattle. Where holders are specified for 3mm to 5mm stock, the thicker board sits at the more stable end of that range.

When it is not the right choice

For a large run of small directional signs, the additional weight rarely earns its place and 3mm is usually the more sensible specification. Corflute of any thickness is also intended for temporary to medium-term use rather than as a permanent exterior substrate; for a shop front or fixed site sign, an aluminium composite panel is generally more appropriate.

Preparing your artwork

A vector PDF is the preferred format. If your artwork is raster, supply a high-resolution file built to the final size and to the template supplied for this product, keeping bleed and safe-area margins as that template sets out. Design for a short glance: few words, large type and high contrast.
