Choosing the right printed sign starts with where it will be installed, how long it needs to last and how it will be mounted. Retail Sign supplies custom banner and sign printing from Auckland for retail promotions, events, construction sites, property advertising, offices and temporary wayfinding throughout New Zealand.
Flexible banners work well when a graphic needs to roll or cover a large area, while rigid boards provide a cleaner flat surface for freestanding or fixed signage. Compare the most common materials below before ordering.

View 3mm corflute signs| Material | Best suited to | Main advantage | Planning note |
|---|---|---|---|
| PVC banner | Promotions, events, fences and general advertising | Flexible, custom-sized and easy to transport | Specify the installation method and finishing required when ordering |
| Mesh banner | Scaffolding, fences and more exposed outdoor positions | Perforated construction reduces wind resistance compared with solid PVC | Fine details and colours may appear less dense than on solid banner material |
| 3mm corflute | Short-term event, campaign and directional signs | Lightweight and economical | Support the board correctly, especially in outdoor or windy locations |
| 5mm corflute | Larger temporary signs needing extra rigidity | Stiffer than 3mm corflute while remaining lightweight | Still requires secure mounting for outdoor use |
| Foam board | Indoor presentations, displays and point-of-sale graphics | Smooth, lightweight presentation surface | Primarily suited to dry indoor environments |
Start by measuring the usable display area rather than estimating from a photo. Leave enough clearance around fixings, doors, windows and structural edges. A design viewed from the road or across a large venue needs larger text and fewer messages than a sign read at close range.
Tell us how the banner or board will be installed. Eyelets, edges, supports and fixing positions can affect the finished size and safe setup. For a portable vertical display with its own retractable stand, use the dedicated pull up banner collection.
Use concise headings, clear contrast and high-resolution images. Important logos, phone numbers and calls to action should remain inside the safe area, away from trimmed edges and fixing points. Artwork should match the ordered proportions so it does not need to be stretched or cropped unexpectedly.
If your promotion also needs window coverage, consider one way vision graphics. For permanent office or shop branding, custom acrylic lettering may be more suitable than a temporary printed board.
PVC generally gives a denser solid print surface and suits many common promotional uses. Mesh is normally preferred for fences, scaffolding and more exposed positions because air can pass through the perforated material. The installation and local wind conditions still need to be assessed.
Both are lightweight fluted plastic boards. The 5mm option is thicker and more rigid, while 3mm is economical for many short-term signs. Size, support and exposure should guide the choice.
They are commonly used outdoors when the correct material, finishing and fixing method are selected. Outdoor signs must be installed securely, and the site owner is responsible for checking structural, landlord or council requirements where applicable.
Supply print-ready artwork at the ordered proportions with suitable image resolution, bleed and safe margins. Vector logos and outlined fonts are preferred where possible. Contact us if you need the correct setup information for a specific product.
Production time depends on the product, size, quantity, artwork approval and current workload. Delivery timing also varies by destination. Confirm your required date before ordering when the signage is for a fixed event or installation.
